▼ ロス郊外で通勤列車同士衝突　１１人死亡、１９０人けが（朝日新聞）

26日朝6:05頃、カリフォルニア州 Glendale の（写真を見る限りでは）三線区間で発生。自殺目的のSUV*1が線路に停車しているところに、メトロリンクの南行旅客列車*2が衝突脱線、隣の線路の貨物列車に接触した後、さらにメトロリンクの北行旅客列車*3が突っ込んで来たという三重衝突事故らしい。二階建て客車と機関車があちこちに吹っ飛んでいる。
車を線路に放置した男（直前に逃げ出した）は殺人（謀殺、murder）容疑で逮捕されたとのこと。故意に車を放置して人が死んだ、ってことで謀殺なんだろうか。

ちなみに今、メトロリンクのウェブサイトには以下のような文章が掲載されている。まず冒頭で乗客の近親者に対するお見舞いが書かれているあたりや、第2段落で「わが国で最も安全な移動手段は列車だ」なんて言い切ってしまうあたり、やっぱりアメリカだなという感じ。原文はこの後にダイヤ変更の案内が続く。

Until further notice, Metrolink trains on Ventura County and Antelope Valley Lines will operate a modified schedule until the tracks near the Glendale station re-open for service. We apologize for any inconvenience these interruptions may cause. We thank you for your continued support during these difficult times.
